We present two heterogeneous integration techniques that enable high-density electrical and optical I/O connections,
Zambia has been actively developing its Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) ecosystem to enhance competitiveness and industrial capacity. The UNCTAD STI Policy Review highlights Zambia's focus on building national capacities for technology design, innovation, and industrial competitiveness, with special attention to digital transformation and technological adoption in key sectors . The Ministry of Technology and Science oversees initiatives to strengthen research institutions, universities, and private sector collaboration, which could support advanced electronics and photonics development.
While Zambia's manufacturing sector is primarily focused on agriculture, mining, and basic industrial goods, the country has been improving its trade facilitation and regulatory frameworks to attract investment in high-tech industries. Zambia is a member of regional trade agreements such as COMESA, SADC, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which reduce tariffs and non-tariff barriers, potentially easing the import of specialized components and export of high-tech products . The government has also implemented strategies to eliminate non-tariff barriers, which could benefit future optoelectronic manufacturing ventures .
Currently, there is no publicly available evidence of a dedicated low-loss ODM for optoelectronic integration in Zambia. Any development in this area would likely require significant investment in specialized equipment, skilled personnel, and partnerships with international photonics companies.
While Zambia does not yet host a low-loss ODM for optoelectronic integration, its emerging STI ecosystem, supportive trade policies, and regional market access provide a foundation for potential development. Investors or collaborators interested in optoelectronics could explore partnerships with local universities, research centers, and government programs to establish such capabilities in the country.
