Network Distribution Box Specifications

Network distribution boxes are designed to safely house electrical or fiber connections, with specifications covering materials, dimensions, busbars, isolators, protection ratings, and installation methods.

Electrical Distribution Boxes

Construction and Materials: Electrical distribution boxes are typically fabricated from 2 mm GI sheet steel for outdoor use, reinforced with suitable channels for structural integrity. Doors feature slanting roofs with overhangs to prevent water ingress, and Godrej-type 3-position locking systems ensure security. Hinges are concealed, and solid earthing points are provided on both sides. Boxes conform to IP-55 protection against dust and water ingress, verified through type tests at approved laboratories . Busbars and Droppers: Phase busbars and incoming/outgoing droppers are made of EC grade aluminum. For 63/100 KVA boxes, busbars are 72x50x8 mm, while for 160/315 KVA boxes, they are 120x50x15 mm. Feeders and incomer droppers match these cross-sections. PVC insulating sleeves with standard color codes are used for phase identification, and adequate clearance is maintained from the box body . Isolators and Cutouts: Switch disconnectors (isolators) conform to IS:13411 standards, with a breaking capacity of 80 kA. Arc-chutes with a minimum of 12 strips extinguish arcs efficiently. Porcelain cutouts protect outgoing circuits in higher-capacity boxes (160/315 KVA), and handles are designed for easy operation with sufficient length for cable connections . Internal Features: Boxes may include provisions for one busbar arrangement with 4-pole MCCB and outgoing feeders with 2- or 3-pole MCCBs. Lighting inside the cabinet is often provided for maintenance purposes. Punching marks and non-detachable nameplates identify the purchaser's property .

Fiber Optic Distribution Boxes

Construction and Materials: Fiber optic distribution boxes are made of high-strength engineering plastics (PC+ABS), offering UV resistance, anti-aging, moisture-proof, dust-proof, and waterproof properties. Protection levels can reach IP65, suitable for outdoor and indoor FTTx networks . Capacity and Connectivity: These boxes serve as termination points for feeder cables connecting to drop cables. They support fiber fixing, splitting, splicing, and jumper management, with pre-connectorized adapters (up to 18) and splicing trays for 1x2, 1x4, 1x8, and 1x16 splitters. Heat-shrinkable splice protection sleeves are included for secure fiber management . Installation: Fiber distribution boxes can be pole-mounted or wall-mounted, with a compact design (e.g., 241x208x117 mm) for easy routing and operation. The advanced structure ensures quick and reliable connections while maintaining network integrity .

Summary

Network distribution boxes, whether for electrical or fiber networks, are engineered for durability, safety, and efficient cable management. Electrical boxes focus on busbar sizing, isolator ratings, and IP-55 protection, while fiber boxes emphasize fiber splicing, pre-connectorized adapters, and IP65 protection. Both types provide secure, organized, and accessible solutions for network distribution in industrial, commercial, and residential applications .
